:// First Transmission

Hello, internet!

Who am I?

There’s two answers to this question. Who is the person behind the screen, and who is Candlebot?

Candlebot is a robot, living in a cassette futuristic, neon-lit city, in their own cozy apartment. There’s always a brisk autumn breeze on the balcony, and a warm cup of tea waiting for any visitors. Candlebot spends their time repairing trinkets they find, drawing and writing in his journal, and hacking radio waves and data cables to send transmissions to whoever might be listening out there…

I, on the other hand, am not nearly as interesting.

My name is Eddie. I’m an artist, an animator, and a lover of tea and robots. I worked in the animation industry for 7 years as an animator, storyboard artist and compositor. I worked on shows like Harley Quinn, Kite Man: Hell Yeah, and Helluva Boss. I had the privilege of helping out on a variety of indie animated productions over the years as well.
I’m a comic artist as well, and I self-published a graphic novel at the age of 19. I’m currently working on my next comic project, Circus of Wishes. I am a trans, queer, and neurodivergent individual, and that lived experience and personal connection colors my art and storytelling.
I currently live in New York with my fiancée and our two cats.

What is this website?

For the longest time, I’ve been really struggling to figure out what I want from my online presence. As starry-eyed, bushy-tailed young artist entering the online animation spaces for the first time, everyone recommended that I make my online moniker my full name. My social media, my email, my portfolio site, all of it was the same. They told me it’d be easier to remember, and it would be more professional.
At first, I didn’t mind it, I wanted to be one of the animation greats one day! I wanted my name to be recognizable as my “brand”, and for people to associate it with the successful career I was sure to lead.

But things changed, and I found myself shrinking away from the spotlight more and more. I wouldn’t post any art, any opinion, anything at all, because I was afraid of it not being “professional” enough for my social media presence.

After a while, I finally realized that sucked. I missed the freedom I had in my deviantArt and tumblr days. I missed the “old internet”, where people could find communities so much easier through things like forums and chatrooms, and where I didn’t have to be anything special for people. So, I decided to just pull the trigger and just… Do it. Who said I couldn’t, except for myself?

So I rebranded my socials, and made this place — Candlebot.net. I want to make a little hub for my thoughts, my art, and to have a little corner of the internet I can call home.
